Introduction

Dear Member,

Following a recent update in the Data Protection legislation there is a new EU regulation (called the General Data Protection Regulation or GDPR for short) which is already being incorporated on the statute book here in the UK with a new Data Protection Bill (DPB) which is currently going through Parliament and which will come into force on May 25th next year.

Both GDPR and DPB impose certain responsibilities on those organisations who collect, store and publish information about individuals which can result in those individuals being readily identified – this includes some obvious information such as name and address but also some not so obvious e.g. in our case, boat name or dinghy park space etc.  In addition, we are required to inform you of any third parties to which we release your personal information. At present these are:
  • Handbook Designer & Publisher
  • Our external IT support Company
  • Jonas Database Software
This requires the Club to seek your “informed consent” to allow us to continue to hold this Personal Data in our records, to process it and to continue to communicate with you as a Club Member.

The legislation states that the Club is not allowed to assume “informed consent” so it is therefore very IMPORTANT that we have a response from every Member before May 2018.

If a Member fails to respond or denies us permission to hold, process, and publish certain Personal Data then it could affect your Membership with us.

Thank You in Advance.
