Introduction
 
Gatwick Airport published its new Master Plan on 18 July 2019. It includes plans for three active runways. It has one runway at the moment. It will use the emergency runway as a second runway. And wants to safeguard land so that Gatwick Airport can build a third runway.
 
The Airport plans to increase the number of planes that use the main runway. Operating two runways will increase the number of flights from 55 to 75 an hour to accommodate 74 million passengers a year (45.7m passengers currently). Gatwick will also increase freight and will need over 20,000 more workers as well as workers for peripheral industry.
