Slipway Technical Consultation

Today, the Port of Milford Haven has released a technical consultation to share the key design elements that will make up a critical component of the Pembroke Dock Marine scheme. The joining together of Slipways 1 and 2 will create a large multi-use slipway capable of meeting the needs of the Waterway and maritime industry over the next 40 years. Whilst an effective design is proposed based on expert knowledge, it is still of critical importance that the views and expertise of those who could benefit from the Pembroke Dock Marine project are taken into account before the design is finalised. The consultation will run over the course of the next few weeks. (Pembroke Dock Marine is funded by the Swansea Bay City Deal, the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government, and through private investment.)

Tim Bownes, Project Advisor has produced a short video on the key features currently integrated into the design. Please watch the video and then provide us with your feedback below. As part of this consultation, we have contracted Claire Palmer at Dragonfly Project Delivery Ltd to support in two way engagement. If you’d prefer to book a session with Claire, please let us know in the notes at the end.

Your input is valuable to us, so we look forward to receiving your feedback on this landmark development at Pembroke Port. Please could you complete the survey below or session with Claire by 16th July 2021.

Kind regards,

Tim James

Question Title

* 6. Are you happy to be contacted in relation to this consultation by the Port of Milford Haven and Claire Palmer?

Question Title

* 7. Does the gradient of 1:12 present any challenges to prospective use of the slipway?

Question Title

* 8. Is the design loading for the anchorage points (335t) sufficient for your needs?

Question Title

* 9. Are the anchorage points in the correct position on the plan?

Question Title

* 10. How does the width fit with your requirements?

Question Title

* 11. Two rails are proposed with 8m gauge, with the centre line 15m from the flank wall. This means a cradle capable of moving something approx. 20m wide could be used.

Question Title

* 12. How would a set of rails or an amendment in the rail design that enables the full 65m width of the slipway to be used increase the potential use of slipway from your perspective?

Question Title

* 13. Ceasing the cradle rail at the beginning of the transition simplifies the design. Would there be significant added value to continuing the rails through the transition (this could come at design and installation cost so needs to be balanced against the alternatives i.e. transfer to SPMTs)?
