Potton Neighbourhood Plan

Introduction
In 2011, the Localism Act introduced a new opportunity for local communities to shape their future formally as part of the planning system.  Neighbourhood Plans can be produced by Town Councils and, when adopted, they become part of the development plan for the area.  This means that any planning applications will have to take account of the policies contained within the Neighbourhood Plan.  It also provides local people with a say on how land use and buildings can develop over time, such as protecting open spaces and improving local character.
The Potton Neighbourhood Plan will be written by the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group to help influence how the Parish evolves up to the year 2035.  The Plan is about the use and development of land within the Parish.
The Neighbourhood Plan will set out preferred sites for the new developments if these are required in the future, what kind of developments these should be and what infrastructure and facilities are needed to make Potton a better place to live and work.
Neighbourhood Plan Vision
‘ Potton will remain a small Georgian Market Town with a vibrant market square that has a variety of shops and services that meet the needs of the Town and its residents.  There will be Medium Scale, managed, proportionate and uniform growth over the period of the Plan offering suitable and affordable housing and encouraging local businesses.  Sustainable development will meet the needs of the Town and its residents and will be in conformity with the CBC Local Plan whilst still retaining Potton’s heritage and green environment.’
The Neighbourhood Plan has nine objectives and these can be found at the start of each relevant section of this questionnaire.  The objectives have emerged from a pre-vision questionnaire and various community consultation events that were held during 2016.
To confirm the policies that will be contained in the Plan, we are gathering opinions from households and businesses in the Parish and we hope that as many of you as possible will respond.  This will ensure that the Plan is based on a proper understanding of the area and of the views, wants and needs of local people and businesses.
At a later stage, every resident in Potton on the electoral register will be invited to vote on the finished Neighbourhood Plan.
Your answers to the questionnaire will be treated as confidential, and not published to any third party. Some comments may be selected for anonymous inclusion in the Neighbourhood Plan documentation.
This is a great chance for you to be involved in shaping the future of Potton.
Notes for completion of the Questionnaire
You may remain entirely anonymous if you wish but you are asked to provide your postcode.  However, it would be useful if you could fill in the details about yourself at the end of this questionnaire so that we can see if the people that have responded to this survey represent a good cross-section of those living in Potton.  In the final report, no individuals will be identified.
Even though only those on the electoral register will be able to vote in the referendum, the views of under 18’s are most welcome.
We also welcome multiple responses from your household in the event that members of the household have different views and/or needs in the future development of the town.  For instance, younger residents might be more in favour of a youth centre or a skateboard park.  Additional hard copies of the Questionnaire can be obtained from the Library or from the Council Offices in Brook End.

Please complete your questionnaire by Friday 26th May 2017.
