Introduction to the Engine Shed Project

The University of Northampton is moving from its two existing campuses (Park and Avenue) and creating a new campus in the town centre. Located on the new campus is a Grade II listed Engine Shed which is in a poor state of repair. The Heritage Lottery Fund has granted £1.3m towards the refurbishment of the Engine Shed, which will be the home of University of Northampton Students’ Union when the campus is complete.

The Students’ Union provide a wide variety of academic, pastoral and support services to students including academic advice, sports clubs, societies, volunteering and skill development opportunities which will be delivered from this venue.

While the Engine Shed will be used as a Students’ Union it is important for the building to reflect the industrial history of the site as the Engine Shed will be the only previously existing building in an otherwise new build campus.

This survey seeks to gather public feedback on previous engagement and interaction with the Engine Shed in its former uses and how the public might engage with the building as a students' union.
