During the COVID-19 pandemic, we've seen some fantastic examples of whole school communities pulling together to support families. Parents/carers, parent groups, schools and the wider community have done amazing things together to show they care about local families - keeping in touch, sharing information and providing practical support (food, clothing, packs for school work etc).
At Connect, we really want to see this wonderful way of working together in school communities to continue.
We think you'll agree: a whole school community approach should be at the heart of our education system. We have much to learn from our experiences during COVID-19 – what worked and what left families and children on the margins because COVID-19 put the spotlight on the inequalities in our society.
However, when everyone works together in our school communities, to support families and to help children and young people learn, we can really make a difference to children's lives.
We are now calling on parents/carers, parent groups, politicians, policy-makers, local authorities and schools/nurseries to work to support school communities as a whole, with schools/nurseries at the heart of their communities, as the way to make real change happen.
