1. INTRODUCTION TO THE SURVEY

SHOULD I COMPLETE THE SURVEY?
Yes! YOUR opinion matters to us. We are interested to find out what ALL adults think about children's play, past and present.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY PLAY?
Play is typically understood to be 'freely chosen, personally directed and intrinsically motivated' (doing what they wish, in their own time, in their own way).

WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
This year is the 30th anniversary of Playday (a UK-wide national celebration of play).  We want to find out how if play has changed through time by asking adults about their experiences, past and present.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO COMPLETE THE SURVEY?
About 10-20 minutes

WHEN DO YOU NEED IT RETURNED?
Ideally, by July 21st 2017.

IS IT CONFIDENTIAL?
Yes. The only people with access to the results are Professor John McKendrick of Glasgow Caledonian University and Sharon McCluskie of Play Scotland, who are administering this survey on behalf of Play Scotland, Play Wales, Play England and Playboard Northern Ireland.  No individual will be identified in the research report.

WHAT WILL BE DONE WITH THE RESULTS?
John will write a short report on the key findings. This will be used to generate some media interest around Playday 2017.  The findings may also be written-up for publication.

HOW CAN I COMPLETE THE SURVEY?
1. You can complete the online version of the survey (https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/PLAYDAY_2017_SURVEY). This is our preference!
2. If you prefer, you can download a PDF version of the survey. You may be able to complete the survey on your computer, depending on what version of Adobe that you have. If this works, you could then e-mail back your completed survey to Sharon at sharonmccluskie@playscotland.org.
3. You can print off a copy of the survey, write your responses on the paper copy and return by post to Playday 2017 Survey, Play Scotland, Level 1, Rosebery House, 9 Haymarket Terrace, Edinburgh EH12 5EZ.

CAN I GET A COPY OF THE RESULTS?
Yes. They will be available in the middle of the year on the Play Scotland website, or if you provide your e-mail address, we will send you a copy of the report.

THANKING YOU IN ANTICIPATION FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
