Following the efficiency savings put in place by the council over the last decade or so, there is no longer a need for such a large Civic Centre. The regeneration is planned to replace various office buildings and the council chamber with housing. As your local councillors, we have been lobbying successfully for low-density housing and an upgrade of the gardens to a park. But we have been met by Labour opposition who want hundreds of flats instead.
