Lorkin Daniell Field Play Equipment

The Parish Council believes that now is an appropriate time to review the play equipment at the Lorkin Daniell field in terms of it being fit for purpose, catering for the needs of the community, age group appeal and balance of equipment, type and number. A Playground Advisory Group of interested parties, parents, guardians and councillors has been established since last Autumn to consider ways of funding such a project and to develop a strategy for the evolution of the site. It is anticipated that this will extend over three years with much of the old equipment being phased out over that period. That which is still appropriate will be refurbished and integrated with the new.

The Trustees of the Lorkin Daniell Field have considered a proposal from the Playground Advisory Group and sufficient funding for the first phase has been secured. A crowdfunding scheme which would welcome support has been established and various community fundraising schemes such as the formation of the West Bergholt Film Club have been initiated.

The plan below gives an indication of what the final area might look like and also the proposals for Phases 1 and 2 this year.

The Trustees are keen to receive the views of all members of the community on the proposals and to consider any new ideas. A more detailed presentation will be made by the Playground Advisory Group at the Annual Parish Meeting at 7.30pm in the Orpen Hall on Weds 24th April 2019.

The plan below gives an indication of what the final layout might look like. Phasing will be necessary as it will take time to accumulate all the funding required for the project. Phase 1 involves the refurbishment of some of the existing equipment plus a new piece of equipment most likely to be item 3 (Cone Climber). Phase 2 is anticipated to be the new zip wire (item 1). Further phases would be carried out until the full layout depicted could be achieved. It is possible that the zip wire will require planning permission and if so there would be a separate consultation by Colchester Borough Council on this piece of equipment. Please also note that the distance between any piece of equipment and the football pitch to include the roped off section on match days will be maintained. It is expected that Phase 1 will be carried out in early to mid summer with Phase 2 starting later in the Autumn of this year.
