About this Survey

The Domestic Abuse Act 2021 was passed on 29th April and gave Nottinghamshire County Council statutory duties for commissioning Domestic Abuse support services for adults and children within safe accommodation. The term ‘safe accommodation’ refers to refuge accommodation and the Sanctuary Scheme as defined in the Domestic Abuse Act 2021.

The MHCLG has allocated £1,540,091 in 2021/22 to Nottinghamshire County Council for the delivery of the domestic abuse duty and a further £223,315 to the districts and boroughs.

A Domestic Abuse Needs Assessment has been developed to inform Nottinghamshire County Council's Commissioning Plan, that outlines how the Local Authority will fulfill its statutory obligations on the new Domestic Abuse Ac 2021.

In order to deliver this duty, a provider is required to undertake a review into the accommodation needs of male and female survivors of Domestic Abuse, including those with Protected Characteristics, additional and / or multiple complex needs, or whose support needs cannot be properly met within non-specialist domestic abuse safe accommodation.

In terms of current data on the needs of survivors with protected characteristics in Nottinghamshire, we have an incomplete picture. This survey will contribute to our understanding of need.

The review should ascertain what is provided locally, gaps in provision and any barriers to access to safe accommodation and support for survivors with protected characteristics. Most importantly it should also make clear recommendations on what the needs of survivors are, and how Nottinghamshire County Council, together with seven Boughs and Districts, should address them, taking into account any relevant national best practice.

Protected Characteristics (Equality Act 2010) cover age, disability, gender, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation.
