The Big Debate – “This house believes there are more risks than benefits in allowing people to access the whole of their pensions at 55.”

2.30 – 3.30pm, Tuesday 22nd January, The Out of the Blue Drill Hall, 36 Dalmeny St, Edinburgh EH6 8RG

Please join us for a lively and informative debate!

On one hand a pension is just a financial mechanism to give you an income post-retirement. But in reality it is so much more than that – the choices you make are a representation of your needs, your vulnerabilities, your life plans and your attitude to spending and saving.

The law that allows people to access their whole pension at 55 provides choice and freedom, which are such valued features of our society – but individuals are living longer and might need an income for many years to come; and by taking their pension early might risk simply running out of money in an era of ever-diminishing support from the state.

Come and hear two debating teams fight out their views on whether or not the pension law is irresponsible – and have your say!
