Improving services for people with Osteoporosis (weakened bones) in Sandwell and West Birmingham

NHS Sandwell and West Birmingham Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is currently reviewing the local Osteoporosis service for its population, to ensure people have equal access to a high quality, fit for purpose service.

This listening exercise is part of a wider review of musculoskeletal services in Sandwell and West Birmingham.

The review is driven in part by our commitment to make improvements in line with the government’s national vision for the NHS as set out in the NHS Long Term Plan (published earlier this year) to improve the quality of care delivered to our patients and to help them achieve better health outcomes.

At the same time, the national clinical standards set out by the Royal Osteoporosis Society (ROS) have recently updated. We therefore need to assess how well these standards are being met and ensure the local service is up to date.

The review will also need to consider the current service arrangements to ensure our population has fair and equal access to services.

This gives the CCG an opportunity to listen to the needs and experiences of those living with osteoporosis, to identify things that could be improved and help shape the way the service is delivered in the future. We would like to hear from people affected by osteoporosis and their relatives/ carers/ representatives and other interested individuals who could help us do this.
