Draft Orkney Harbours Masterplan Phase 1 - An Overview

The Draft Orkney Harbours Masterplan Phase 1 is intended to provide a structured framework for the physical development and transformation of Orkney’s harbours over a 20 year period. It will enable the Harbour Authority to make informed decisions to meet changing markets, grow new markets, and safeguard Orkney’s harbours as essential economic drivers and community assets for future generations.

The proposals in summary are:
  • Kirkwall Pier: new quayside, expanded marina, waterfront development area & improved quayside.
  • Hatston: 300m quayside extension & creation of additional operational land for a variety of uses.
  • Stromness: improvements to Copland's Dock pier, reclamation and improving quayside area in Stromness.
  • Scapa Pier: 100m quayside extension and marine leisure berths and slip.
  • New Scapa Deep Water Quay: creation of new deep water facility in Scapa Flow with 20m depth of water and 5+ hectares of operational land.
  • Lyness: creation of hard standing areas.
This is your opportunity to work with Orkney Islands Council Marine Services to inform and help develop the Draft Orkney Harbours Masterplan that will facilitate future investment and development opportunities in the area for the benefit of the wider community.
