Your North Nottinghamshire.  Your Town.  Your Business.  Your Say.

North Nottinghamshire Place Board is interested in developing a Business Improvement District (BID) for the area in which your business is located.  This first stage feasibility study will determine whether a BID is developed in 2016.

What is a BID?
BIDs empower local businesses and enable them to create a 5-year Business Plan of improvements and new initiatives for their area.  They are a valuable means of increasing footfall, boosting trade and benefitting businesses, their employees and customers.  We believe a BID will raise the profile of North Nottinghamshire as well the local towns of Worksop, Retford, Harworth and Tuxford.

Why a BID?
There are 220 established Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) across the UK, with 11 in Birmingham and 45 in London alone.  Successful BIDs have already been developed by businesses locally including Nottingham, Sheffield, Leeds and Lincoln.  We believe that now is the time for our businesses to come together to enable all of us to enhance the environment in which we spend most of our days, to boost footfall, increase sales turnover, promote business networking and inter-business trading and to work together as an active group to achieve a thriving and strong outward-looking business community.

How are BIDs managed?
BIDs are 100% business-led, business-controlled and business-managed.
They are funded by contributions from all businesses in the form of a small levy which is normally set at circa 1% of a business premises rateable value.  At this stage, we anticipate that the cost will range from £50 -100 per year for the smaller businesses, up to a maximum of about £5,000 each year for the larger businesses.  The final amounts would be set out in the BID Business Plan which businesses vote on at official ballot.  The funds raised would be ring-fenced and managed by the BID (a Board of local businesses) to implement the proposals in the Business Plan that businesses have chosen.

Have your say
As a first step towards determining priorities for the BID, businesses throughout North Nottinghamshire are being asked to complete this survey.  If businesses support a North Nottinghamshire BID there will be a 12 month period of widespread business consultation, public meetings and a five year Business Plan will then be drawn up with proposals reflecting the needs and ideas of local businesses for each area.  Businesses will vote on the proposals at a ballot, which it is anticipated will take place in 2017, at which time you will be able to vote for or against BID status.  If a majority of businesses vote in favour the area will become a Business Improvement District (BID) and all projects in the Business Plan get underway.
