TENNIS SUSSEX AWARDS NOMINATION CRITERIA

Nominations will be judged against the criteria and, with the exception of the Lifetime Achievement award, for achievements made in 2019. When submitting a nomination, you are strongly encouraged to provide as much evidence as possible (specific facts, figures and outcomes wherever known) and to assume the judges do not know the nominee or their achievements.

The following award categories are open for nominations.

Question Title

* 1. YOUNG PERSON OF THE YEAR - The Coburn Plate - Presented by  Ray and Di Coburn.
Is aged 18 or under on 31st December 2019.

Has made a positive impact in tennis, in a voluntary or paid capacity:
either in a tennis venue(s), in the wider community, or to the sport as a whole.

Has provided, or supported, the opportunity for more people to participate in tennis.

Has shown excellent teamwork skills, and engaged well with people from different backgrounds

Has developed in skills or confidence, or taken on new challenges or roles

Has attended LTA courses / workshops to develop further.

Question Title

* 2. Volunteer of the Year Adult sponsored by Wilson Sandford Chartered Accountants.

Has made a significant impact in tennis, in any voluntary capacity: either in a tennis venue(s), in the wider community, or to the sport as a whole.

Has provided, or supported, the opportunity for more people to participate in tennis.

Has shown excellent teamwork skills, and engaged well with people from different backgrounds.

Question Title

* 3. COMMUNITY AWARD
Is a club, group or organisation that provides tennis to the community.

Has provided excellent tennis sessions that meet the needs of the community, with a growth in the number of people playing, watching or volunteering.

Is well organised and financially sustainable, and has a longer-term plan for tennis provision.

Has a strong presence in the local community and is inclusive of all ages, abilities and backgrounds.

Has found creative ways to engage with the community.

Question Title

* 4. COACH OF THE YEAR
New this year we will have 2 Awards: Performance Coach and a Club/grassroots-please state which award for your nominated Coach.

Your nominee must hold an LTA Accreditation or Accreditation +, A qualification of either a LTA L3, L4, L5.
Has made a significant impact on a player, players, a coaching programme, a club or a community programme.

Has demonstrated quality on-court delivery and excellent customer service.

Has continued to develope in their chosen field.

Is inclusive and provides opportunities to players of different ages, abilities and backgrounds.

Has helped to develop other coaches and young people.

Question Title

* 5. CLUB OF THE YEAR - Sponsored by RT Williams Insurance
                                                         Brokers Ltd
Is an LTA registered venue.

Has maintained and / or grown its membership over the year and/or the number of people playing, working or volunteering in tennis, providing excellent customer service.

Has a strong leadership team with excellent working relationships between the committee, coach(es) and members, with a strong focus on financial sustainability.

Is inclusive and has good links with the local community.

Shows innovation and creativity for running a successful club.

Question Title

* 6. Education Award

Is a school, college or university offering a significant and varied tennis programme of coaching and competitions for a large proportion of students or pupils of all abilities.

Please state if you are nominating a school, college or University.

Has offered students or pupils the chance to develop through tennis.

Has successful and sustainable links with the local community and/or tennis venues.

Has participated in school tournaments.

Question Title

* 7. DISABILITY AWARD -  sponsored by Friends of Tennis Sussex

 Is a venue or programme which provides quality accessible and affordable opportunities for people with a disability to play, volunteer or work in tennis – taking either a pan-disability approach or an impairment specific one.

Has grown the number of participants since the previous year and provided excellent customer service to all.

Has provided a safe and inclusive environment that caters for a range of ages, abilities and backgrounds.

Question Title

* 8. LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD - Robert Cushing Award

In recognition of the unique contribution made over many years by our
late President, this award is for outstanding service in his memory.

Is an inspirational role model who has made a significant impact in tennis over a number of years showing a lifetime dedication to the sport. This will usually be for voluntary activities but may include paid work too.

Has provided the opportunity for more people to participate in tennis.

Has developed a legacy in tennis: either in a tennis venue(s), in the wider community, or to the sport as a whole.

Has shown excellent teamwork skills throughout their involvement, and been inclusive of people from different backgrounds.

Question Title

* 9. OFFICIAL OF THE YEAR

Is an LTA Licensed Official /Referee, Umpire or Court Supervisor.

Has shown an outstanding contribution to British Tennis in any officiating capacity, going above and beyond the minimum requirement for their certification/grade.

Is an ambassador for British Tennis and a role model, inspiring new and existing officials through their work.

Has shown personal development over the past year.

Question Title

* 10. COMPETITION OF THE YEAR
Is a tennis LTA sanctioned competition of any level, supported or run by volunteers.

Has seen growth in player numbers and/or entries over the past year.

Has provided an excellent and inclusive competition to its competitors, with high tournament satisfaction scores.

Has demonstrated innovation in order to grow and develop the competition.

Is well organised and was delivered with a team approach, with a close working relationship with local clubs, coaches and their communities.

Question Title

* 11. TEAM CAPTAIN  
A team captain who has successfully managed a junior or adult Sussex based team.

A team captain who has gone the extra mile, watching matches, arranged practices, arranged social events, informed players of other events, sent regular updates for social media and reports to managers whether club main contact or tennis Sussex.

A team captain who has successful managed a team to a winning formula.

A team captain who has increased & maintained their player base.

Question Title

* 12. Team of the Year - Junior or nominate Team of the Year -Senior

Team of the Year Junior

A team of players junior U18 who either play for their club, venue, or county.

Team needs to compete in a sanctioned LTA event.

Team players have shown commitment to their team by supporting players.

Team that has won a title in the last year November 2018 to September 2019.

Team that has improved in 2019.

Team that has used social media, sent in reports to county or venue manager, showing their enjoyment & commitment.

Team of the Year senior

A team of players consisting of adults/seniors who either play for their club, venue, or county.

Team needs to have competed in a sanctioned LTA event.

Team players have shown commitment to their team by supporting players.

Team that has won a title in the last year November 2018 to September 2019.

Team that has improved in 2019.

Team that has used social media, sent in reports to county or venue manager, showing their enjoyment & commitment.
