If you were in charge, what would you do?

The NHS is changing and it needs your help. As medicine advances, health needs change and society develops, we have to continually move forward so that our services are the best they can possibly be, now and in the future.

Nationally, the NHS has recently published a new document called the Long Term Plan which advises on how we can do just that. The plan sets out how services will develop over the coming years to improve people’s health and wellbeing. It aims to give everyone the best start in life; deliver world-class care for major health problems, such as cancer and heart disease, and help people age well.

Organisations responsible for health and care services in South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw are working together in new and more joined up ways to deliver the best health and care for patients, in a partnership called the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Integrated Care System and following the publication of the Long Term Plan, we want to know how you think we can better support the health and wellbeing of people of Barnsley, Bassetlaw, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield.

We have some excellent services in our region and we want them to continue being the safest and highest quality for everyone. Along with all of the NHS, we will benefit from our share of the extra £20bn funding announced by the Government last year and our focus is on designing local services to meet people’s needs.

We have an opportunity to work together better to deliver the best care for patients – wrapping support, care and services around people as individuals, removing organisational barriers and putting the needs of people and patients first. To help us do this, we will develop our own five year plan.

To ensure that the plan reflects local needs and make sure that you, your family and your community get care where and when you need it, it’s important that we hear your thoughts. Let us know about your recent experience of health and social care services. No matter how big or small the issue, we want to hear about it.

The Long Term Plan sets out a number of priorities and ambitions and based on previous local feedback, we have selected a number of them for more detailed discussion.

If you would like to read the full Long Term Plan click here, and you can highlight other areas that you would like to be taken into consideration in the shaping of our local plan by stating what they are in the final question of the survey.
