Review of the North Ayrshire Housing Allocation Policy

The North Ayrshire Housing Register landlords are ANCHO, Cunninghame Housing Association, Irvine Housing Association and North Ayrshire Council.  The landlords allocate empty properties according to the North Ayrshire Housing Allocation Policy.  This policy is being reviewed.  A new law, the Housing (Scotland) Act 2014 is due to be introduced and we need to ensure that the policy complies with this.

We want to consult with applicants, tenants, residents and other stakeholders on changes that are being considered.  Your views matter and will help influence the policy review. Please complete the survey by 29th January 2018 for your chance to win a £50 shopping voucher.  Click Here to view the current Allocation Policy.

If you have any questions regarding the policy review please contact your landlord or the Common Housing Register Team on 01294 310181.

* 1. The current allocation policy goes further than is required in law and says that each child aged 8 and over should have a bedroom of their own. Overcrowding points are awarded when there are not enough bedrooms available.

* 2. The new law allows owner occupation to be taken into consideration. Do you think we should continue to house owners who need a home, for example older people who need to move due to a health issue or disability and are unable to access suitable housing in the private sector?

* 3. Sheltered Housing was originally intended to meet the needs of older people and is currently allocated to older people aged 60 years and over who need a home.

Do you agree that sheltered housing should be allocated to younger people aged 16 – 59 who need a home due to a health issue or disability?
