COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT ON THE FUTURE PROVISION OF HOME CARE IN
KINGSTON

Healthwatch Kingston upon Thames has been contracted by the Royal Borough of Kingston to engage with local residents about their health and social care needs. As part of this arrangement, we have agreed to survey home care users about planned changes to the way local services are provided.

Healthwatch Kingston is working in partnership with Kingston Centre for Independent Living and Kingston Carers Network on this engagement exercise.

The Royal Borough of Kingston has been working with other health and social care providers across Kingston to improve the way support is provided.

In recent years, the Council has funded external organisations to deliver this support on their behalf.  The Council is planning to set up its own organisation to directly control and influence the way care is delivered, creating new teams of workers to provide personal care to support people at home (i.e. home care).

The new teams will be able to perform a wider variety of tasks than the current providers and will be able to discuss with you what is important to you in your life and what kind of support you need to live independently. The teams will work alongside other health and social care professionals to ensure you receive the right support at the right time.

We want to provide a service that addresses some of the key things that home care service users in Kingston have said is important to them, such as dignity, consistency, choice and control, and support to access other services in the community.

As we start to implement this new model we would like to hear your thoughts on the proposed changes and what is important to you about the way support will be provided.

CHANGES YOU MIGHT EXPECT TO SEE

Reliability - consistency of care workers and them knowing what to do on the support plan.

Access to the community - care workers will give you support to do things outside the home.

Choice and control - a service that is able to support you based on what you need each day.
