Introduction to Mobile Application Testing (Workshop)

Workshop at BSides Scotland 2019, delivered by David Turco (@endle__) - Senior Security Consultant at Context Information Security

The workshop starts at 1pm and will go on for about 2-2.5hrs.

Abstract

The workshop starts by introducing the basics of mobile application testing.

It will then cover key concepts of the Android Operating System and Android applications such as sandboxing, permissions, APK, Android manifest, intents, activities, broadcast receivers, content providers, services, URL schemes, Android Debug Bridge, and SMALI. Commonly used tools will be introduced throughout the workshop.

Attendees will then practice what they learned in a series of exercises and demos using the provided mobile training virtual machine.

Prerequisites

The workshop is aimed at an audience with a basic skill level. You should have understanding of basic web application testing, have used a modern mobile phone, and speak basic *nix.

You will need a laptop with the Mobile Training virtual machine already installed.
