Menu of Choice: Creating Opportunities for Schools and Businesses to Work Together

Are YOU on the Menu?

The Council’s Employment and Skills team are working to encourage more businesses to engage with schools and colleges to offer Careers Education Information Advice and Guidance (CEIAG). Good CEIAG means that young people make the right choices about their future career.

A key priority is to increase and enhance engagement with schools and businesses. In order to assist with this, the Council has created  a ‘Menu of Choice', which helps schools to understand what is available to them – which we need local businesses to help with, anything from, but not limited to:
  • Hosting a school for a small group visit to the business
  • Offering a work placement(s) opportunity (for a day, a couple of days or a week)
  • Supporting a school to do short mock interviews
  • A 'talk with' a member of the team [a range of different roles]  to give a young person / small group an opportunity to talk to a professional about their job, what it is like/involves, their experiences, the best way of getting a career in that particular role etc.
  • Representing your business sector at Tameside's annual careers and apprenticeships exhibition
  • Class/assembly talks on careers in your business sector /skills needed and future job opportunities etc.
  • A more formal partnering with a school for business /sector skills project and mentoring
  • Taster sessions/day activities or projects
  • Job shadowing opportunities
  • Mentoring  projects
  • Business representatives becoming involved as a School Governor
We need the help of local businesses to provide opportunities like those listed above for students locally. If your business would be interested in getting involved, register your interest by completing this sign up form.
Please note that businesses who haven’t supported requests in a twelve month period may be removed from the Menu of Choice database.
