Welcome to the Make Theatre Day Booking Form

IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ

Make Theatre Days are a great opportunity to give children in years 4-6 an active and exciting introduction to theatre-making and the backstage world of the National Theatre. Select from a choice of four exciting days linked to different aspects of theatre-making: Performance Skills, Puppetry Skills, Design Skills and Sound and Lighting Skills.

Performance Skills
Experience a day in the life of an actor. A backstage tour will introduce your class to some of the spaces an actor works in - perhaps a dressing room, a rehearsal room and one of the NT's three theatres - and they can try on costumes that actors have worn in past productions. After lunch, they meet a professional actor and participate in a workshop introducing key performance skills such as voice and physicality. The children will create a short performance to be shared at the end of the workshop.

Puppetry Skills
Visit the backstage workshops where some of the NT's most famous puppets were made. See the stages they appeared on. By getting hands-on with puppets from NT family productions children will see how they are designed and learn some basic principles of puppetry. After lunch, your class will work with a professional puppeteer to create their own pet dog puppet out of simple materials. They will learn how to bring it to life and teach it tricks before bringing it home to impress their friends and family with their new skills!

Design Skills
Step into the shoes of a theatre designer for the day. Your class will have an introduction to one of the NT's three theatres, before seeing where all the sets and props for NT productions are made. After lunch, your class will participate in a hands-on design and making workshop led by a professional artist. Working from a theatre director's brief they will design and make a set model, costume or prop relating to an NT production.

Sound and Lighting Skills
Your class will be introduced to one of the NT’s three theatres before seeing where all the sets and props for NT productions are made. After lunch, your class will participate in a technical workshop, to learn how different aspects of both lighting and sound work in theatre with practical demonstrations. The children will then get to take on the role of a lighting / sound designer working to a brief to create their own designs.

Cost for maximum of 32 children per visit: £180 (maintained schools) / £300 (independent schools).
