Bowel Buddies Questionnaire

By answering this short questionnaire you will help us to shape a new project that we are calling Bowel & Cancer Research Bowel Buddies. It should take you no longer than 4 minutes.

Bowel Buddies will be volunteers who will be available for people who are being newly diagnosed with bowel cancer or chronic bowel disease.

A Bowel Buddy will undergo a special selection and training programme to enable them to provide support. A buddy will not pass judgement on the individual or the condition, will not give advice or guidance passing for expert opinion and will definitely not give medical advice.

The Buddy will be someone who will stand alongside the newly diagnosed individual, supporting them by listening and enabling the person to share their feelings about their diagnosis. The Buddy may have experience of a bowel condition themselves, but this is not the primary requirement of such an individual.

It is anticipated that our Bowel Buddy project will be evaluated as a piece of research to see if it might help in a measureable way with the wellbeing of the patient and how they cope with their condition.

We would like to find out what you think about this potential new project. The information you provide is completely confidential and non-identifiable. Your answers will be combined with the answers of other participants involved in the survey.

Your answers are important to us because they will give those who make decisions about how to take this project forward an idea of how patients feel about this as a good idea or not.

If you have a query about this survey, please contact Lesley Booth at Bowel & Cancer Research on 02078828749. Or e-mail: Lesley@bowelcancerresearch.org

Thank you for your time.
