A year of community events celebrating 800 years of Shirenewton!

‘Shirenewton 800’ has been created to mark the approximately 800 years that have passed since the founding of the village and its church.

It is not intended to raise funds, but instead celebrate and strengthen our community.

We have been fortunate enough to secure some funding for some of the repairs that our church currently needs from major Funders and as a result need to ensure that the Community is engaged and involved.

A small working group involving representatives from the Community Council, History Society and Church is leading this initiative.

We would like to know how strongly some ideas appeal to you; please let us know what you think and if you have alternative ideas, please do share them.  Thank you.

Does an 'Art Safari' and Treasure Hunt around the centre of the village appeal?   Ideally we would apply to have the lanes around the Church closed temporarily so that local art groups and artists could sketch/paint, sculpt or photograph, with the intention that we can all engage with them, watch their progress, see the finished results and enjoy tea and cake.
