A Consultation by the Church Commissioners

At the July 2021 Sessions of the General Synod of the Church of England, the Synod welcomed a consultation paper  GS2222 Mission in Revision - Review of the Mission and Pastoral Measure 2011 and commended it for discussion.

The Church of England has recognised that its complex legal systems and processes need reform and simplification in order to further the mission of the Church more effectively. A review of the Mission and Pastoral Measure 2011 (MPM) was identified as a priority for action.

The MPM is an administrative piece of legislation which enables bishops and their diocesan teams, with the support of the Church Commissioners, to organise certain aspects of ministry and mission in their dioceses, to enable greater flexibility in the use of church buildings, and to manage the disposal of churches no longer needed for regular public worship. This is a technical and detailed survey which follows the questions in the report and paragraph references to the report are given throughout.

If you have arrived at this Survey directly you are will find it helpful to read the consultation paper at the MPM Review page on the Church of England website.

If you do not wish to complete the whole survey please do just respond the questions most relevant to you. If you wanted to make some more general comments about the issues raised you may find it simpler to do so by e-mail to mpm2011review@churchofengland.org

This consultation process is open until 30 September 2021.
