Introduction

Thank you for taking part in the CTSI Diversity Survey 2021. This survey aims to assess the make-up of the trading standards profession and listen to the experiences of working trading standards professionals. This survey assists CTSI in shaping policy and its strategy for the profession. The survey will capture ideas for improving equality, diversity and inclusion in CTSI and the profession.

This survey asks questions about yourself, your professional life, experiences within your career and your views and feelings on the state of the profession. We understand that you may be hesitant to respond candidly to the questions; however, CTSI assures you that the survey is entirely anonymous - it does not request your name or CTSI membership number. We ask that you please answer the survey as thoroughly as possible, as this will allow us to paint a complete picture of the trading standards profession, which helps CTSI improve the profession both for you and your colleagues.

Alongside questions about your background, such as whether you are a parent, your consumer protection qualifications, and your departmental role, the survey focuses on your lived experience as a consumer protection professional. This includes your experience of being recruited into the profession and whether you have encountered discrimination whilst undertaking your role. CTSI's Race & Equalities Working Group, an independent analyst and a limited group of CTSI staff, will have access to the data for analytical purposes. An independent report based on the data received in the survey will be published later this year. The data received will be retained for a maximum of three years *need confirmation of timescale* so that the results may be compared with a potential future survey.

The survey takes approximately ten minutes to complete and is open to current trading standards professionals in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in any work setting. These work settings may include local authorities, the private sector, consultancies and professional bodies, and every TS subject area, such as product safety, metrology, food standards, etc. The survey is open to both CTSI members and non-members, so please feel free to share with your trading standards colleagues who might not currently be members.

Also, CTSI is offering participants the opportunity to be entered into a draw for a donation to a charity of choice.
