We believe that investment decisions should reflect environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations. We value what our members think and would love to hear your thoughts - the results will feed into our ESG approach, which will be published next year.

1. If The People’s Pension is looking at two companies to invest in, and if they both offer similar returns on the money invested, our policy is to invest in the better managed company, so we look carefully at how they are run before we decide which companies to invest in.

Is the company involved in the manufacture of controversial weapons, as defined by the United Nations Global Compact?

Gender diversity
Does the company have a balanced gender representation at different seniority levels within the company?

Pay inequality
Does the company have a fair distribution of pay across all levels of a company?

Board diversity
Does the corporate board of a company include members with a variety of experiences and backgrounds?

Packaging and waste
Does the company produce large amounts of waste and are not making efforts to reduce environmental impact of their packaging?

Data security
Does the company have adequate policies and programs in place to protect privacy and data security?

Asbestos mining
Is the company involved in extracting and processing asbestos?

Sustainable land use
Does the company have adequate policies and programs designed to protect biodiversity and address community concerns on land use?

Tobacco
Is the company involved in the manufacture of tobacco products?

Nuclear weapons
Is the company involved in the production of nuclear weapons?

Tax avoidance
Is the company persistently engaging in aggressive tax planning?
