Introduction

Due to the impact of COVID-19, there have been many changes in both the Youth Arts & Education landscapes, respectively, and in how they intersect. Creative Scotland’s Creative Learning & Young People Team, in partnership with colleagues from both the Arts and Education sectors, are looking to lead an exercise to gain a snapshot of where arts providers are playing a role in supporting learning, including within formal education, community and family settings.

Creative Scotland recognises the recommendations made by the Children & Young People's Commissioner for Scotland in their COVID-19 Independent Children’s Rights Impact Assessment, and that action is required in order to ‘maximise all opportunities for children to enjoy their rights to rest, leisure, recreation and cultural and artistic activities and address structural inequalities that constrain these rights.’

This mapping exercise is intended to allow us to understand better where the arts are well-placed to work with education and learning partners to support children's access to artistic, cultural and creative opportunities within the COVID-19 recovery and where further support and advocacy could help to build capacity.

We are seeking to hear from both arts organisations and individual artists who work in Scotland with and/or across early learning, schools, and other family support and community learning settings.

The survey is focused on the short term (academic year 2020/21) and is not intended to be a detailed statistical survey but an opportunity to gain an overview on what was happening, what is happening now and advocate for what support is needed.

The deadline for submission has been extended to Friday 21 August 2020.

We will collate the information gathered and share key findings with participants.

Many thanks in advance for your assistance in supporting this mapping endeavour.
