Community Group Survey on Developing a Play and Leisure Policy

Have your say in the Kerry County Council Play and Leisure Policy!

Kerry County Council are working with Playboard NI (https://www.playboard.org/) to develop the Kerry Play and Leisure Policy.
  • By play we mean the activities children and young people freely choose to take part in for their inherent fun and enjoyment. These can be physical, creative, imaginative or social and may take place in a play park (with play equipment), on a green space in a housing area or on the streets of the communities in which children and young people live.
  • By recreation and leisure, we mean the activities that children and young people engage in during their free time. These activities could be physical or social in nature and provide a sense of enjoyment and relaxation.
The development of this play and leisure policy is important as it will help to guide the provision of free, usable, public, outdoor play and recreation areas in Co. Kerry for children and young people aged 0-18 years.

Since the publication of the 2004 Kerry County Council Play Policy, community involvement and engagement has been crucial to the development of fixed play areas across the County. The new policy will seek to build upon this community engagement to further the play and recreation opportunities offered to children and young people in Co. Kerry.

This survey will allow us to hear the views of Community Groups regarding play and recreation opportunities in Co. Kerry in order to develop the Kerry Play and Leisure Policy. In addition to this survey, we are also providing a survey for parents/guardians and young people aged 13-18 years. We are also providing a drawing task for children aged 12 years and under.

When completing this survey, it is important that you provide as much of the information requested as possible as this will allow us to get an in-depth overview of the current play and recreation provision and areas for improvement.

The survey should take about 20 minutes to complete.

Please be aware that in order to process your response, it is necessary for Kerry County Council and Playboard NI to collect personal data from you (i.e. the Municipal District in Co.
