Training Qualifications UK - Total Qualification Time & Guided Learning Hours survey

TQT is an estimate of the total length of time it is expected that a learner will typically take to achieve and demonstrate the level of attainment necessary for the award of the qualification i.e. to achieve all learning outcomes. It is made up of two parts:

1. An estimate of the number of hours a learner is likely to spend in preparation, study or any other learning including assessment, which takes place as directed by, but not under the supervision of a lecturer, supervisor or tutor.

2. Guided Learning Hours: These hours are made up of all real time contact time, guidance or supervision of a learner by a lecturer, supervisor, tutor, trainer or other appropriate provider of education or training. This includes classroom teaching, invigilating tests/exams, observation of work activities, supervision learners completing workbooks/tasks/assignments, collecting evidence for a portfolio and remote real time activities where there is direct contact with the teacher/tutor e.g. a live webinar or supervised e-learning.

The credit value, where given, for a qualification is determined by TQT, as one credit corresponds to 10 hours of learning.

As part of the changes following the closure of the QCF, we are required, by Ofqual, to express the size of all qualifications in terms of TQT and minimum GLH.

To help us determine accurate values for TQT and GLH we are seeking feedback from centres about the delivery of current qualifications.

We would be grateful if you would complete the following questionnaire and return it as soon as possible.

Question Title

* 3. TQT

To calculate Total Qualification Time, we also need to know how much unsupervised time learners spend to complete the qualification.

In addition to the supervised time, how much unsupervised time (in hours) does a typical learner spend in studying, learning or producing work for assessment? E.g. working on coursework, independent research, producing and collating portfolio evidence, recorded webinars and other web-based materials.

Some qualifications may be delivered with all teaching, learning and assessment activities learning time supervised therefore the unsupervised learning time will be zero.
