The digital volumes found on the National Gallery's website represent the start of a long-term project to provide greater access to the Agnew’s stock books. The manuscripts are a major source of information for anyone researching the history of art collecting and the market for contemporary and Old Master artworks during the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Stock books dating from 1853 until the beginning of World War I have been digitised. Ultimately, we hope to transcribe the information contained within these volumes into a searchable database, freely accessible to the public.
