Powys County Council is looking to co-locate Welshpool library with Powysland Museum next year.

Why?
The council needs to find substantial savings of around £37m by 2023.  A move next year will ensure neither the library nor the museum has to close in the near future - this is a real possibility if we do nothing.  Co-location will mean a smaller space for both services but it will reduce running costs and the current library building will be freed up for staff who will be moving out of Neuadd Maldwyn in due course.  Neuadd Maldwyn is being sold to contribute to the savings target.  We think co-location is the most sensible solution but we could close the museum or the library and retain one or the other but probably not both going forward.

This survey seeks your views on how best to use the space if we co-locate and what your preference is.

We envisage a space where visitors can browse our permanent displays which depict the rich history of Montgomeryshire, choose a book to read, look at artefacts, carry out research, pick up an application for a blue badge and/or pay their council tax.
