Survey Aims

The government's 10 point plan for a 'Green Industrial Revolution’ announced last year, has highlighted the critical importance of decarbonising homes, in achieving the UK’s 2050 net zero target. The ambitious plan includes the phase-out of gas heating in new homes by 2023 and a target to install 600,000 heat pumps, every year, by 2028.

MCS welcomes the 10 point plan, however we are aware of the skills gap currently associated with low carbon heat technologies (e.g. heat pumps), which must be addressed, in order to achieve widescale deployment. Therefore, MCS are keen to help scale up the supply chain and encourage the growth of low carbon heating, by facilitating the development of an installer led, low carbon heating apprenticeship scheme.

This survey aims to support the development of the apprenticeship scheme, by gathering market information from our industry, which will contribute to designing the framework of the apprenticeship scheme. The survey has been designed to be used by all types of companies within the industry, including sole traders. Even if you do not have any employees, the detail which you can provide on the work you carry out, will prove invaluable in informing the design of the apprenticeship scheme.
