East West Rail Station at Cambourne

The East West Rail project will create a direct route from Oxford to Cambridge with a station near Cambourne, trains to run approximately every 15 minutes. Although the exact location has not yet been decided, below is a map of their preferred corridor (Fig 1) showing a station to the south of Cambourne (impinging on the Wildlife Trust Country Park and requiring a bus or Metro link to bisect The County Park).

Cambourne Town Council (CTC) is arguing for the station to be sited north of Cambourne and the A428, thus directly accessing the A428 and, amongst other issues, not shattering our Country Park haven or generating unsustainable traffic on our surrounding roads. Wherever the station is built it will likely attract more housing.

CTC’s reasons for North of Cambourne – integrates with existing infrastructure, creates a ‘travel hub’, less environmental damage (does not destroy The Country Park), provides for existing demand and agreed planned development cutting car usage – fewer carbon emissions.
