Introduction:

It is Scottish Rugby’s policy to ensure that barriers to participation in Rugby Union - real or perceived - are removed. This is particularly the case for those groups which may currently be under represented within our game, and for those who may traditionally not have seen rugby as their sport of choice. We are committed to developing processes, practices and plans to ensure that rugby is open to all and that we uphold the principles of equality in all aspects of our work. We will audit and monitor our business activities regularly, and take appropriate steps if it appears that our commitment to equality is not being delivered effectively.

Please find below the Scottish Rugby Union’s Equality Survey 2017. Your cooperation in helping us to gather this monitoring information will greatly aid our efforts to ensure that everyone involved in the sport is treated fairly regardless of age, race or ethnicity, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion or belief.

We established base data from our Equality Survey in 2014 and this informed the development of our Equality Action Plan 2014-16. We are looking to update this data in order to see what progress we have made towards tackling areas of under-representation or inequality, as well as identifying current areas we need to focus on in our next Equality Action Plan, which will be developed following the results of this survey.

This work is being carried out as part of our responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010 and as part of the accreditation process for the Equality Standard for Sport (a requirement of our ongoing sportscotland funding)

Responses will be treated in the strictest confidence, in line with the principles of the Data Protection Act 1998. This means that:

- Your information will be stored securely with restricted access;
- Information will be anonymous(this means that there will be no way in which you can be identified), there is nowhere on the form that asks for your name; and
- Information will be combined in the form of summary reports which will be reported to our board and may be published on our website.

Instructions for completion:

Your response should be completed electronically via our survey method.  Should this option not be available please request a hard copy of the survey from Pete Young and return to Scottish Rugby, BT Murrayfield Stadium, Edinburgh EH12 5PJ

The survey will only take you a few minutes to complete, but will be very valuable to us. We would ask you to complete the survey by 10 March 2017.

You are not obliged to answer all of the questions.

If you have any questions then you may talk in confidence to Pete Young, Equality and Outreach Manager peter.young@sru.org.uk or 07764178941.

Thank you in advance of your cooperation which will help us in our equality work.
