Introduction

Welcome!

Thank you for taking part in this review of the HeadStart bases.

HeadStart, in coproduction with young people, established HeadStart bases within community venues in each of the four geographical areas:

  1. All Saints, Blakenhall, Parkfields and Ettingshall - Bob Jones Community Centre
  2. Springfield, Heath Town, Park Village, Old Heath/Eastfield - Eastfield Community Centre
  3. Bilston East - Gazeebo Town Hall
  4. Low Hill, The Scotlands and Bushbury South - Low Hill Library
The primary aim for the bases is to act as a focal point through which HeadStart staff can engage with local schools and communities through outreach work.

In particular, HeadStart staff in the bases will:

  • Provide an identifiable focus for HeadStart in one of our geographical areas
  • Act as a conduit for HeadStart outreach initiatives into schools and community groups.
  • Co-ordinate local asset mapping and development of local governance arrangements to support local priority-setting and local commissioning decisions.
  • Build resilience, capacity, and empowerment in communities through a range of activities.
  • Support in lowering or removing barriers to accessing services and reduce stigma relating to people asking for help.
  • Lead a multi-agency, joined up approach, to create cross functional/organisational teams that can meet the diverse needs of young people, parents/carers and communities
  • Provide access to specialist knowledge and support from CAMHS staff much earlier than the current tiered approach affords.
  • Provide a single point of contact for emotional wellbeing mental health triage in each area.
  • HeadStart staff have developed local steering groups to bring together community and statutory partners to ensure HeadStart outcomes are met within each HeadStart geographical area.
The outline above details the aims for the HeadStart bases.  This survey/review is to find out if there is a need to keep all four bases open and to do that we need to know what partners and local residents feel about having a HeadStart base in the area moving forward.
