RESOURCING AND RELEASING LAY LEADERS
CONSULTATION BY THE LAY LEADERSHIP TASK GROUP

Introduction

The Lay Leadership Task Group was established by the Archbishops in December 2015 as one of the work-streams within the Renewal and Reform initiative. The purpose of the Task Group is to review how the Church supports lay leaders in community and society as well as within church structures. Its objective is to make recommendations that will increase the effectiveness and confidence of lay people in leading where they are called to serve – in wider society, in local community and within the Church of England (Church) in ways that grow disciples, extend God’s Kingdom and transform society.

For the purposes of this consultation exercise, the Task Group is provisionally defining ‘leadership’ as applying to those holding formal or informal positions or roles or positions of significant influence within the Church, an organizational structure or the community.

The Task Group is carrying out an initial targeted consultation exercise to help it develop its thinking prior to reporting to the Archbishops’ Council in September 2016. A further public survey questionnaire is likely to be issued during May – June 2016 in order to enable broader input into the Task Group’s work.
