The review concluded that the standard should be retained with changes made to it, such as ensuring :
the standard, clearly sets out the requirements of the occupation to be fully occupational competent
the apprenticeship can be delivered to a consistent level of quality across all organisations
the content of the standard up to date, reflect current Institute best practice and guidance and align with the principles that the review
Specific Conditions included removal of the Barbering option (and its content) from the standard, this will be developed into a separate standard.
Specific Guidance included:
using clear and up-to-date terminology
changing the title of the occupation to ‘Hairdressing Professional’
review style and finish hair using a range of techniques to create a variety of looks, particularly the inclusion of extension services
change ‘modesty, privacy and comfort’ to ‘maintain confidentiality and comfort’ as this is more commonly used in the sector
expectations regarding requirements for T sections should be made as clear as possible
a restyle haircut should not have to include one above and one below the shoulders
include digital skills, including the importance of social media to hairdressing businesses and Sales, marketing
align with the T level outline content
how to deliver services to a diverse range of clients, from a range of ethnic origins
EPA should continue to use a practical assessment, but also consider the use of a portfolio to demonstrate that a wider set of skills has been mastered
the appropriateness of pass, merit and distinction grades (and fail) should be considered
These points have been considered by an Expert Working Group (EWG) who have developed the consultation draft. This document has been developed for consultation purposes only, the final document will be presented on IfATE templates for Occupational Standard and End Point Assessment Plan. The results from consultation will be reviewed by the Hair Professional Apprenticeship Steering Group and refined to meet IfATE standards.
