Cambridge City Council is asking for your views on a proposal for a new banded Council Tax Reduction Scheme for working age people claiming Universal Credit, that it is looking to introduce from 1 April 2020.

This proposed change does not apply to people who have reached state pension age or are not on Universal Credit.

The aim of the new scheme is to simplify the administration of awards to give people claiming a clearer idea of their monthly contribution towards a Council Tax bill, based on how much they earn. This will help people to manage their budgets better and allow the council to deal with claims and make awards a lot quicker. The council is not looking to make savings in the overall level of Council Tax Reduction Scheme it awards and wants to continue to support vulnerable people living in the community.

People claiming Universal Credit who are not working will continue to receive a full discount, although other non-dependant adults living in the property maybe asked to pay £6.50 per week towards the cost of services that the Council Tax covers.
