A Survey for Local Authority Commissioners

Please let us know your thoughts on commissioning support for children and young people with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN)

Please spend ten minutes completing this short survey. This will give us important information about how support for children with SLCN is planned and commissioned.

The closing date for completing this short survey is Friday 28th July 2017.

Please feel free to respond to any question on which you have a view, there are 22 questions in total. If you are unsure or just don’t know, please move on to the next question.

A note on terminology in this survey:

  • Speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) – this term is used to describe children and young people’s communication difficulties.  It includes all levels of severity.
  • Local area – when this term is used, it refers to the area within which your service operates. This might be a ward, a borough or a local authority.
  • Support – this term is used to describe a range of ways children get help: e.g. speech and language therapy, programmes/specialist advice in school, training, additional equipment
  • Resources – this is used to refer to both financial and human resource
  • Commissioners - people responsible for planning and funding support
  • Commissioning – how support for children’s SLCN is planned and funded
