The Year 5 mathematics masterclass days at Plymouth University is a day long masterclass designed for your able and interested mathematicians.

The title of the day is ‘Tactics and Strategies – Talking, Thinking and Doing Mathematics’. The aims of the day are to encourage collaboration through talking and doing mathematics together, encourage the pupils to explain their reasoning and to stretch the most able, in a challenging but fun environment.

I would like to invite up to 4 of your pupils to one of the days.

There are 6 identical days running in May: Wednesday 6th May, Thursday 7th May, Monday 18th May, Tuesday 19th May, Wednesday 20th May and Thursday 21st May. I would like to invite you to send up to 4 pupils from year 5 to one of these days. Each day is limited to a class size to a maximum of 24 pupils to ensure that the pupils are given an enriching experience.

Please note that a particular date will only run if it has a viable number of attendees.

 
The day will start at 10:00 and finish at 3:00 and will be held on the main campus of Plymouth University (PL4 8AA).
 
If your school would like to attend, please apply as soon as possible so that your allocated day can be confirmed and you can start to make arrangements. PLACES ARE LIMITED AND your choice of day will be ALLOCATED ON A FIRST COME FIRST SERVE BASIS.
 
It will be helpful if you are able to give a number of possible days as this will help allocate schools across the available days to give a equal number on each day.
 
The group of children would need to be accompanied by a teacher or TA.
 
The cost of the day is £15 for each pupil for this event.
 
All pupils, and the accompanying adult, will need to bring a packed lunch. (A mid morning drink and a snack will be provided).

Payment can be made by invoice, cheque (in advance or on the day, payable to Plymouth University) or cash on the day.
