Welcome to the GP Access Survey

Improving access to general practice is a significant challenge for the NHS. Lack of access to general practice is not only a poor experience for patients but it is also costly for the system. NHS England together with the Strategy Unit at the NHS Midlands and Lancashire Commissioning Support Unit would like to know how appointment systems and other working arrangements in general practice can affect access for patients.

We would like feedback from general practices via an online survey that should take 30- 45 minutes to complete. We only need one response per practice, and we think at most practices, practice managers are ideally placed to complete the survey. For large practices, the lead receptionist or operational manager may be more suitable.

We appreciate that general practices are currently very busy and as practice leads you have many competing priorities for your time.  As you understand the current situation for managing GP access the best, we do however urge you to take the time to complete the survey.  For some questions you may want to confer with colleagues but we are not looking for precise answers, your best estimate is good enough. Your responses will directly help shape national recommendations to manage patient access.

Your specific responses will not be linked to you or your practice. Summary findings from practices will be shared anonymously in a report with NHS England.
