EnviroNor: powering and purifying the world with tankersNorwegian company EnviroNor provides water-on-demand through seawater desalination, wastewater treatment, and water purification by repurposing product tankers. It also plans to convert oil tankers into mobile waste water treatment plants that can be sent to cities around the world that are struggling with water shortages. Mooring these converted tankers alongside wind farms, could draw on renewable energy to desalinate water for coastal cities. Teekay’s quiet tanker initiativeTeekay Shipping is to partner in Canada’s new Quiet Vessel Initiative which aims to reduce underwater noise, protect the marine environment, and foster the development of quieter designs and technologies. The vessel will have specific design targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20 per cent and reduce noise by up to 90 per cent, compared to conventional tankers. Thomes’ Environment module thru the NAU AppThome developed a mobile based application called NAU intended for the performance monitoring of Thome Group’s entire managed fleet. The App includes an ‘Environment’ module that covers daily monitoring of the accumulation and disposal of machinery space bilges and sludge on board across all managed vessels and alerts the vessel managers when there is excessive build-up beyond set benchmarks.
