Information and Application form

What is it?

As part of our commitment to supporting our local communities, Urras nan Tursachan is creating a community support fund and will be allocating 1% of all sales in the Calanais Visitor Centre Café and shop to the fund, from 1st August 2022

Who can apply?

Any community group or local good cause based in the Dalmore to Lochganvich area can apply for a £200 grant from the fund to support a particular initiative, project or event.

How does it work?

We will create a list of good causes in the order in which we receive a request on this form. As soon as the fund contains £200 from sales at the Calanais Visitor Centre, we will award this to the first eligible good cause. The next £200 will then be allocated to the next cause and so on. The amount of time taken to amass each £200 grant will depend on the sales in the CVC – the more sales we have, the quicker we will reach each £200 grant

Can we apply for more than one grant?

Yes, especially for different projects.  Multiple and repeat grant applications may be placed lower on the list in order to allow all groups a fair share.

How will I get my grant?

You will be notified of your place in the queue for a grant and as soon as you are awarded a grant, you will be invited to the CVC to receive it from our Engagement Officer

Is there anything you won’t support?

There may always be exceptions but in general we won’t put the following on the list:
  • Expenditure which would be harmful to health (eg. provision of a smoker’s area)
  • Projects that exclude parts of the community on grounds which would be in breach of normal polite and civil behaviour
  • Activities which would not qualify as charitable using the OSCR guidelines
  • Payments to individuals

If you think your application might fall into one of these categories then your answer to question 7  needs to explain why it should be an exception.

Do we have to be a properly constituted organisation?

No, although applications from unconstituted groups should add the details of their committee members in Question 1

Do we have to provide a Grant report?

No, once your group has the money it is up to you how you spend it, however, we would like photos showing the good work your group is doing.
