Draft Green Infrastructure Strategy Consultation June 2021

This survey is about Green Infrastructure (GI). Green Infrastructure is important, because it plays a crucial role in the lives of everyone including wildlife and nature.

Covering a wide variety of open spaces and green features, GI typically includes parks, playing fields, woodland, allotments and private gardens but can include sustainable drainage features - used to alleviate flooding and water pollution - urban planting, cycle tracks and Public Rights of Way as well as ‘blue’ features such as streams and other waterways.

As part of the consultation for the Draft Green Infrastructure Strategy we would like to ask a few questions about your local GI and your thoughts on some of the suggestions made in the Draft Strategy.

The creation of a new country park in the district.

The creation and enhancement of existing cycle and pedestrian routes in the district, making sure where possible, they link up with other towns and villages (within and outside the district) and are off-road or traffic free by re-using disused railway lines and canals.

The creation of fully accessible circular walks around towns and villages in the district.

The provision of new allotments in all towns and villages.

Encouraging landowners and farmers to incorporate wildlife improvements and other GI benefits when they are managing their land?

More play opportunities with a particular emphasis on natural play.

Improve management of streams and rivers to increase water quality, reduce flood risk and to deliver hydro-energy.

Make sure that developers and planners think about how water will be managed on development sites from the very start of the design process to increase the potential to deliver reduced flooding and drought as well as other biodiversity and amenity benefits.

Make sure there are arrangements in place for the long term management of new or enhanced GI from the very start of the design to enable high quality management and community involvement.
