CATALYST TRAINING PROGRAM

Catalyst is a training program for young adults aged 18-24 who are looking to start a career in the environment and/or charity sector who are not in education, employment or training. Catalyst graduates leave the course with new skills, knowledge about sustainability and the confidence to excel in a career within those sectors.

All Catalyst graduates will be eligible to apply for a full-time, 1-year, paid position as a Programme Assistant at Global Action Plan, based at our London offices.

How does the ‘Catalyst’ recruitment and selection process work?

1. Complete this online application form and send notification of completion, along with your CV to catalyst@globalactionplan.org.uk by midday on the 29th July 2016;

2. A selection of 30 'Catalysts' will be made based upon the following criteria:

     - Length of time unemployed (those who have been unemployed for longer may be given greater consideration for a place);
     - Your understanding of GAP and the Catalyst programme;
     - Your evidence of interest in engaging with the environment/sustainability; and
     - The relevance and usefulness of your skills and experience to Global Action Plan's work.

Academic qualifications are not required, however in the absence of these previous office based experience is essential. The year will involve a high level of personal development support so we are seeking applicants who have the potential to really grow whilst carrying out the required tasks of the role.

3. Successful applicants will be offered a place on one of two, free, three day training courses (either 8-10th or 23rd-25th August inclusive, dependent on your availability);

4. On completion of the course, participants will receive a certificate and a guaranteed place in the interview process with Global Action Plan for one of five Programme Assistant positions;

5. Successful interviewees will receive additional training at Global Action Plan and will take part in other training offered to all staff at GAP as part of their ongoing career development;

6. All other Catalyst participants will be offered training and mentoring and will be invited to become part of the wider Catalyst network with networking events and opportunities. They may also be invited to work for GAP as a freelance "GAP ambassador", depending on GAP's workload.

Who can apply?

To be eligible for the training you must meet the following criteria:

1) Aged between 18 and 24 at the time of application for the programme;
2) Not in education, employment or training at the time of application to the course (those working part time or on a full-time educational/training course are not eligible);
3) Available to attend the full, three-day duration of either one of the training courses as outlined above at a central London location.

What will the training be like?

Global Action Plan’s Catalyst training course is designed to give young people an overview of sustainability and why it’s important.

An integral part of the course will be working on your communication skills, so that you can make the best possible impression at an interview.

Learners can expect a highly interactive experience, where information will be presented in a fun, lively and accessible manner. The emphasis will be on learning by doing, through games, exercises and group work; there will be no chance to stand in the corner and not get involved!
