Donna Beveridge, Nursing Auxiliary, Ward 52, VHKDonna has worked in the ward for a year, and has become an invaluable member of the team.With a positive outlook, she is always willing to help everyone. Whether that’s nipping out for a paper for a patient, bringing in board games from home for an elderly lady with dementia to lift her mood, or bringing pancakes in for nightshift colleagues so they don’t go hungry, Donna is dedicated and enthusiastic.Soon to start her nurse training, colleagues believe she will make a wonderful nurse - “If superheroes wore capes, they would be dressed in a light blue tunic with the curliest hair and biggest smile.” Gillian Grubb, Senior Charge Nurse, Elmview Ward, StrathedenGillian’s dedication, passion and enthusiasm for patients and colleagues are described as “outstanding and inspiring”. As charge nurse she supports colleagues during difficult times whilst ensuring all their achievements are celebrated. Gillian uses every opportunity to empower and nurture, teaching new skills and ways of working and encouraging others to “think outside the box”.Knowledgeable and extremely skilled in working with people with dementia, and through her development and implementation of dementia skilled training throughout Mental Health Fife services, she is changing the way people view dementia.Always approachable, Gillian encourages her team to use their skills and autonomy to better improve patient care and relative/carer experience. Arlene Higgins, Ward Clerk, Consultant-Led Maternity Unit, VHKDescribed as “the Yoda of Maternity”, Arlene is the go-to person, with a vast wealth of knowledge and outstanding clerical and organisational skills. Her work is an important factor in the smooth running of the ward.Nothing is ever too much trouble and she continuously provides exceptional support to colleagues, who regard her as “the glue that holds the Department together”.Approachable with a down to earth attitude, Arlene is the smiling face that greets women and families, with her work helping to contribute to a better patient journey. Colleagues are disappointed to discover when she is on annual leave, often suggesting she should be cloned. Mary Robertson, Clinical Co-ordinator, ENT, VHKMary has worked in the NHS for almost 50 years, as a Staff Nurse, Charge Nurse and Clinical Co-ordinator. For over 30 of these years she has worked in the ENT Unit.With a vast knowledge of nursing, she is passionate about her job and ensuring patients receive the best care. Always willing to go above and beyond the call of duty, Mary aims to make patients’ journey though the hospital as easy as possible.Helpful and obliging, Mary is always willing to share her knowledge and assist. Described as “a fantastic role model”, she has gained the respect and admiration of everyone she works with. Amanda Wood, Assistant Director, Research & Development, QMHOver the last 15 years, Amanda has constantly worked to raise awareness of research at all levels, across the whole organisation. In addition she has developed a large and highly effective research team who work between two clinical facilities at VHK and QMH.Described as having “exceptional managerial skills” and always operating an open door policy, Amanda is held in high regard by staff, prioritising and ensuring her team’s wellbeing. Amanda always goes the extra mile and has been instrumental in developing and providing an exceptional working environment that is both supportive and caring.
