The UK Government recently announced proposals to phase out the installation of new fossil fuel oil boilers in homes across the UK from 2026, while natural gas boilers will not be phased out until 2035.

Under these plans, most oil heated households will be expected to fit an electric heat pump when they need to have their boiler replaced, which currently cost between £11,000 and £30,000 (depending on the energy efficiency home improvements required before installation can take place).

I believe there should be a greater choice of affordable renewable heating technologies available to households
I am concerned that off-grid properties will be treated unfairly under the government’s heating plans
I feel it’s unfair that homes connected to the gas grid will not be asked to replace their boiler with a low carbon alternative until at least 2035
