1. About the Freedom FEASTival

Thousands of Freedom Festival goers in 2017 will get a real taste of Hull as part of a long-term community harvest project which will culminate in a spectacular feast that will form part of the 10th festival celebrations for the region’s largest, international arts festival.

Freedom Festival Arts Trust in partnership with Hull Harvest FEASTival and supported by Keepmoat and ABP are developing a large-scale community project which will see hundreds of local people come together sow, grow and ultimately gift a gastronomic feast to be experienced by up to 2000 festival goers on the 3rd September, closing out this year’s festival with a truly homegrown performance. What a way to close out the 10th Freedom Festival and reinforce the cities status as a true ‘City of Culture’.

As with all things Freedom, there will be a large dash of theatre added to the feast which will take place in the reimagined Festival Gardens (Queens Gardens site). Circus, music, installations and a plethora of indescribable world class performances will support the feast creating a theatrical foodie experience for all involved.

Freedom FEASTival is a community event that anyone can take part in. Whether that’s growing some food, promoting the ‘sow-a-row’ and veg pledge campaign on your allotment site or helping out on the day. It will take hundreds of people to make the Freedom FEASTival, the biggest, locally grown and shared feast in the city an extraordinary and worthwhile project to be a part of!

Hundreds of volunteers are being sought to participate in a range of activities including growing food for the feast, guerrilla gardening, cooking and participating in the gastronomic extravaganza that will close out this year’s Freedom Festival.

So, join us in showcasing the very best of Hull to local, national and international visitors to Freedom Festival. As a Freedom FEASTival volunteer, you can be assured that you will meet with some incredible like-minded people, share and learn from experienced growers, be a part of an incredible artistic programme and play a pivotal role in showcasing this city and the communities within.
