OUR DRAFT VISION FOR FINCHAMPSTEAD PARISH

In 2035 families living in the distinct communities that make up Finchampstead Parish will be able to enjoy the benefits of life in a pleasant, well-serviced semi-rural environment.

They will live in vibrant and thriving neighbourhoods with a good range of housing, shops, schools and community services. They, and the many visitors who come from outside the Parish, will continue to be able to enjoy excellent leisure and recreational activities offered by our local countryside. We will have ensured that new development complements and protects the identity of our distinct neighbourhoods and protects our countryside assets and the essential semi-rural quality of life in the Parish.

All responses will be kept confidential and we will not share your information with anyone else in an identifiable way. Aggregated, analysed data will be used to inform the development of the Finchampstead Neighbourhood Development Plan. Your contribution helps us to establish our plan as a significant shaper for the future of our community.

Question Title

* Our vision is to embrace the need for change and to meet the expanding needs of a growing population whilst protecting those important things that have attracted generations of people to choose Finchampstead as a place to live and raise their families.

Q1 : Do you agree with this Vision?

Question Title

* Objective A: Distinct settlements in a countryside setting.

We will ensure that the identity of the distinct settlements that make up Finchampstead Parish will be protected so residents will be able to continue to enjoy life in a pleasant, well-serviced semi-rural environment.

Q2 : Do you agree with Objective A?

Question Title

* Potential Planning Policy areas: Finchampstead Neighbourhood Plan could…
  • Identify critical ‘gap’ green spaces which separate distinct settlements and protect these gaps to prevent communities becoming merged together.
  • Identify distinct settlements.
Q3 : When asked ‘where do you live’, how do you answer?

Question Title

* Q4 : Which of the following are most important in making Finchampstead an attractive place to live? (Choose up to 3).

Question Title

* Q5 : In your opinion what is the single most important thing that needs to be better to improve the quality of life in Finchampstead?

Question Title

* There has recently been positive information regarding the Planning Inspector’s refusal to allow building development in the Sand Martins green space. Wokingham Borough Council define the function of such a gap as ‘to provide for the physical and visual separation of settlements and to prevent the coalescence of settlements.’ It is this sort of gap that our Neighbourhood Plan could identify and help to preserve.

Q6 : Are there other key local green spaces between communities or settlement areas which you would wish to preserve?

Question Title

* Objective B: Appropriate housing development in appropriate locations.

Housing development to meet the needs of a growing population will be accommodated in appropriate locations which do not encroach on the overall vision of a semi-rural environment with green spaces between distinct settlements.

Finchampstead will offer an attractive home for all age groups, but we recognise that housing for retired people, young families and first-time buyers may need to be prioritised so as to maintain a vibrant community of both younger and older residents.

Q7 : Do you agree with Objective B?

Question Title

* Potential Planning Policy areas: Finchampstead Neighbourhood Plan could…
  • Have a policy to support small scale infilling and back land development within existing residential housing areas.
  • Prioritise higher density housing.
  • Identify areas for potential development which are consistent with our vision and objectives.
  • Have a policy on the type of houses that would be consistent with the character of our semi-rural environment.
Q8 : In terms of priority, whose housing needs should we be seeking to promote in the Neighbourhood Plan?

Question Title

* Q9 : Are there any locations that you think would be suitable for new houses?

Question Title

* Q10 : Would you support low-rise (up to three storeys) housing to meet the need for affordable housing in the parish in appropriate locations?

Question Title

* Objective C: Promoting the use of green spaces and network of footpaths.

We will promote the use of our green areas and our network of footpaths to provide attractive visitor locations and leisure facilities. We will aim to offer recreational spaces where local people and visitors can enjoy and appreciate the countryside. Specifically, the ‘Crown Jewels’ of the Parish such as Simons Wood, The Ridges, Blackwater Valley, California Country Park and others will continue to be protected for future generations to enjoy.
