DynaMed/UpToDate survey

The Library and Knowledge Service has purchased UpToDate for several years, providing access to all staff and students at BSUH.  It is highly used but remains one of our most expensive single resources. We are currently looking at the renewal for 2017 which, due to the exchange rates, is considerably higher than in previous years.

We have two options:

1.       To continue to subscribe to UpToDate.

With this option we will have to cancel a number of journals to pay for it.

This will mean cutting core journals in several specialities. Rising costs over recent years have meant that we have already reduced our journal collection to major titles only.

2.       To cancel UpToDate and purchase a similar point of care tool called DynaMed.

DynaMed is used by many Trusts in the UK and has the additional benefits of a mobile app and a British emphasis.

It is about a third of the cost of UpToDate.

If we change to a DynaMed subscription we may also be able to purchase a small number of additional journals.

We would like you to try DynaMed and answer the following questions to help us decide.

We will make our final decision based on your advice, our own knowledge of the resources and with consideration of the costs of both.
